Exchange of trainees between
the Departments of Medicine and Emergency Medicine (A&E) in acute
hospitals has been endorsed by the College in November 2003, to take effect
from 1 January 2004. Basic Physician Trainees may be allowed to undergo
accredited training in Emergency Medicine for 3-6 months duration. In
reciprocation, medical departments may provide supervised training for
A&E trainees on a rotation basis. This arrangement of exchange only
operates when adequate manpower is available in respective departments.
Physician trainees rotated to the Department of A&E will have their
training accredited as Basic Physician training with effect from 1 January
2004.
All A&E trainees will
have to register with our College via our respective Programme Directors
of Basic Physician Training, so that they could be provided with their
training log books. Please also note that all such trainees will have
to pay the costs of their logbooks at HK$250.00 each directly to the College
Secretariat. It should be noted that A&E trainees should be fully
supervised during their period of training in Internal Medicine, and a
supervisor's report should be forwarded to the College of Emergency Medicine's
Education Committee at the end of their training period.
